The Iowa Maternal Health ECHO
an ECHO series to connect maternal health providers across the state
The Iowa Maternal Health ECHO:
is a state-based collaborative learning community designed for Iowa’s maternal health providers. It provides a platform to discuss cases and policies that impact both clinical and non-clinical factors contributing to maternal morbidity and mortality. Our goal is to create a safe space for professionals in obstetrics and gynecology, maternal-fetal medicine, nursing, midwifery, mental and behavioral health, patient advocacy, and community-based organizations to come together. We aim to discuss implementation of best practices in variety of healthcare settings and explore how to best support Iowa’s moms and babies.
What is an ECHO?
Project ECHO provides an opportunity to expand beyond the traditional didactic education model and rather engages an all teach-all learn model which facilitates opportunities for case-based learning and sharing between subject matter expertise and boots-on-the-ground stakeholders. The models are more interactive, real-time, and creating of collaborative learning communities that extend outside of the structured learning time.
Project ECHO is an evidence-based, validated model endorsed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), with increasing utilization among quality improvement/ performance improvement and patient safety leader across the nation (including a handful of other state-based maternal health models).
