Statement on the executive order changing childhood vaccine schedule from the Iowa Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics

The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Iowa Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics continue to strongly recommend the full set of immunizations to help keep children healthy. Pediatricians’ recommendations are based on scientific evidence and a careful review process that has helped protect children in Iowa and across the United States for decades.

The AAP immunization schedule is backed by America’s pediatricians. Any changes should be based on careful scientific review and input from relevant experts and stakeholders. The process is deliberate by design because the stakes for children’s health are high.

If parents or caregivers have any questions about vaccines, we highly encourage them to talk with their child's pediatrician or medical provider.
