IMS Foundation
What is the IMS Foundation?
The mission of the Iowa Medical Society Foundation (IMSF) is to advance the work of the Iowa Medical Society through education and leadership opportunities for current and future physicians in Iowa.
Your contributions are needed to continue to make a lasting impact in Iowa and globally.
Your generous contributions allow us to:
- Help fund Global Health Clinical Experiences
- Purchase white coats worn by Iowa students attending medical school
- Provide opportunities for medical students to attend AMA events
Why contribute to IMSF?
IMSF supports medical students via scholarships, engagement with the AMA, student leadership development programs, and Global Health Studies Clinical Experiences along with support of the medical community at large through public health initiatives, professional development, and leadership opportunities.
In the last 10 years alone, the IMSF has been able to send over 110 medical students to 25+ countries to gain invaluable medical training and on-site experiences.

"Saint Lucia gave me a perspective I will always treasure: that we are all more alike than what we may seem, and we all have a responsibility for caring for one another. There is nothing like true local experiences found in traveling that has such ability to inspire and connect with my own humanity."
Sudeep Gadde
"Just as importantly, this experience showed me what meaningful global health collaboration looks like. Rather than simply observing, I was invited to contribute ideas, discuss resident education, and help develop future research questions surrounding innovations like the GOLY virtual surgical mentoring system. Those conversations evolved into professional relationships that have continued well beyond my time in India."

"I have grown as a person, learning to be more caring, understanding, and adaptable to whatever comes my way. As a future physician, I learned the importance of clear communication with the patients, understanding how cultural customs may affect the patient’s desired plan of care, and using the resources given to provide the best care possible for my patients. "
“The best part of this trip was getting to be in a beautiful place, camping, and providing a unique form of clinical care –low-resource medicine.”
– (2019) Lisa Bell,
Himachal Pradesh, India
"What we experienced was physicians doing the best they can with their limited resources. I saw first-hand the importance of putting patients first."
