The Medicap Pharmacy name has been recognized in the Des Moines area since opening its first location opened over 40 years ago. Currently 20 locations in the central Iowa area are owned by GRX Holdings, LLC, located in West Des Moines. The company also owns Medicap Pharmacy LTC, a closed door pharmacy to serve nursing and group homes and Midwest Compounding to take of patients’ special medication needs through compounding.

Our healthcare promise is illustrated by a genuine commitment to a patient's good health that goes well beyond filling prescriptions. From our tradition of personal, professional care to the innovative, patient friendly design of the pharmacy, a patient will know that their healthcare needs are first and foremost with us. Our pharmacists are committed to a patient’s health by offering an enhanced level of care by:

  • Offering comprehensive medication reviews
  • Taking the time to answer any patient’s questions
  • Monitoring progress towards health goals
  • Screen, educate, administer vaccinations

As a member of our communities, we take pride in giving back to our local schools and non-profit groups. In 2017, Medicap Pharmacy partnered with the Food Bank of Iowa to donate more than $15,000 through a flu shot campaign.

Some of our additional services include:

Specialty Medications:

Patients who take specialty medications deserve and need a higher level of care. The high costs of specialty care, unfamiliarity with how to administer, and fears about possible side effects can be overwhelming for patients.

Our locations offer a variety of medications for Atopic Dermatitis, Behavioral Health, Crohn’s Disease, Hepatitis C Virus, HIV, Hypercholesterolemia, Multiple Sclerosis, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Osteoporosis, Psoriasis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ulcerative Colitis and Uveitis.

To streamline the process, we coordinate:

  • Benefits investigation
  • Prior authorizations
  • Co-pay assistance cards
  • Program enrollment in manufacturer support programs
  • Communication with your office and patient on prescription status

Your patient can benefit as well, because they can enjoy personalized service from a local pharmacist. We are available to answer any questions, provide educational information, or training they need. In addition, they are able to pick up their medications at the pharmacy, or have them delivered free totheir home.

Medication Packaging:

We are proud to offer an innovative medication packaging program called Daily Dose Med Pack. Each pack contains 28 individual blisters, each of which contains a patient’s medication for a specific intake time (Morning-Noon-Evening-Bedtime) for a specific day. Each pack has a detailed description of thepatient’s name, the pharmacy name and information, and the name of the medication. It also has a description of what each medication looks like, how they are to be taken, what time of the day they are to be taken and the physician that ordered them.

This program helps patients be less confused on which medications to take when, and can provide a safer and easier way to take the right medications at the right time. When a patient enrolls, our pharmacists will personally evaluate all of the patient’s medications and consult regularly with the physician(s) for medication changes and refills.

Breast Pumps:

Medicap Pharmacy has become a recent provider of hospital-grade breast pumps, that may be covered by insurance for your patients. Our staff will work with the patient’s insurance company to verify coverage, reimbursement and we will notify them when complete.
