The Office of Driver Services, Iowa Department of Transportation is responsible for licensing all Iowa drivers. Training is provided to more than 500 employees throughout the state on all aspects of licensing, including driver testing, medical and vision requirements, assessing drivers for medical referral, and motor vehicle laws and administrative rules. The agency provides educational programs for senior drivers, teen drivers and tailored programs as requested, and has developed partnerships with agencies such as the Alzheimer's Association, Iowa Autism Society, and the Iowa Medical Society. The Office of Driver Services is recognized nationally as a leader in driver safety and licensing programs, working closely with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau.
