IMS Physician Advocate of the Week

Going the extra mile in the fight for tort reform

Can’t join us for the annual Physician Day on the Hill on Wednesday, March 4? Consider this alternative! Any Wednesday during legislative session, you can come to the capitol as part of the Physician Advocate of the Week Program to lend your voice to the tort reform fight. Staff will provide you with briefing materials. We will help coordinate contacts to make sure your legislators know that you are coming so you can make the most of your time in Des Moines. To sign up for this this program and help to keep tort reform front and center with legislators all session long, please contact Deborah Thompson, IMS Grassroots Coordinator.

Share Your Knowledge & Experience with Lawmakers

We are facing an uphill battle in the fight for a hard cap on noneconomic damages. To we need every Iowa physician to engage, participate, and help in any way they can. Your first-hand knowledge and real-world experiences will help humanize this issue with lawmakers. Come share your story of how Iowa’s worsening medical liability climate is impacting medical practice in our state.

Demonstrate Physicians’ Sustained Commitment to the Issue

When we last sought a hard cap on noneconomic damages in 2017, the trial attorneys pulled out all the stops to oppose the legislation, including a significant and sustained presence at the capitol all session long. We must have a similar presence this session to demonstrate physicians’ commitment to this issue and to show that Iowa’s medical community is prepared to fight back to protect the long-term sustainability of our healthcare system.

Choose a Date that Works For You

We know that you have a busy schedule and you may not be able to attend Physician Day on the Hill on Wednesday, March 4. We created the Physician Advocate of the Week Program to give every Iowa physician an opportunity to make their voice heard at the capitol. Simply select a Wednesday between January 22 and April 1 that works with your schedule to join us at the Capitol. You can come for a few hours or the full day; whatever works best for you.

Sign Up Today & Bring a Colleague!

Are you ready to join your fellow physicians in the fight for tort reform? You can sign up as an individual, a group, a clinic, a county society, or a specialty society. This is going to be a difficult legislative fight. We need your help to make it successful.
