IMS Nominating Committee
Seeks Candidates for Board, AMA Delegation

The IMS Nominating Committee is seeking candidates for election to the following positions:

IMS Board of Directors (term starts April 6, 2019)

  • At-Large Director: 4 positions to be elected for 3-year terms
  • Resident Director: 1 position to be elected for a 1-year term
  • Medical Student Director: 1 position to be elected for a 1-year term

AMA Delegation (term starts January 1, 2020)

  • AMA Delegate: 1 position to be elected for a 2-year term
  • AMA Alternate Delegate: 2 positions to be elected for a 2-year term

Interested members should first ensure they are able to attend the respective meetings. The IMS Board of Directors meets five (5) times per year. Members of the Board also serve as the Policy Forum, which meets twice per year immediately following adjournment of a board meeting. The Policy Forum is the policy setting body for the IMS. The schedule for the next program year is:

  • April 5-6, 2019 - Presidential Reception/Reorganization Meeting, Coralville
  • July 12-13, 2019 - Board of Directors Meeting/Retreat, TBD
  • September 18-19, 2019 - Board of Directors Meeting and Policy Forum, Des Moines
  • December 11-12, 2019 - Board of Directors Meeting, Des Moines
  • February 27-28, 2020 - Board of Directors Meeting, Des Moines
  • April 17-18, 2020 - Board of Directors Meeting/Presidential Reception/Reorganization Meeting, Cedar Rapids

For physicians interested in serving as an AMA Delegate or Alternate Delegate, the American Medical Association House of Delegates meets two times per year. The scheduled dates for the two years in the term being elected are:

  • June 8-12, 2019 - Chicago, IL
  • Nov. 16–19, 2019 - San Diego, CA
  • June 6-10, 2020 - Chicago, IL
  • Nov. 14-17, 2020 - San Diego, CA

 The IMS Nominating Committee will hold its first meeting regarding the election process on November 20, nominating committee members include:

  • Brianna Jewell, DO, Family Medicine, Mason City
  • Noreen O'Shea, DO, Family Medicine, Des Moines
  • Francis Sanchez, MD, Psychiatry, West Burlington
  • Keith Vollstedt, MD, FACS, General Surgery, Sioux City
