Medical Students, Residents and Fellows
IMS offers all medical students in Iowa the opportunity to get involved and learn about the value of organized medicine from the moment they enter medical school. In 2012, the IMS Board of Directors voted to subsidize membership for all medical students in Iowa and to provide free registration for medical students at the IMS annual conference. In addition, the IMS Foundation purchases white coats for medical students at University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine (UI CCOM) and Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DMU). Student members receive many of the same benefits as physician members, including advocacy, newsletters, legislative and policy analysis, networking opportunities and support. In fact, IMS feels so strongly about its role in contributing to the professional growth of Iowa's future physicians that a position on our Board of Directors is reserved for a Medical Student Director and every committee has a medical student representative from both UI CCOM and DMU. In this way, Iowa's medical student leaders have a seat at the table as our physician leaders make critical decisions about the future of medicine in Iowa. Residents and Fellows
Iowa's residents and fellows benefit from significantly reduced membership rates, providing complete access to IMS's full-time lobbying team, real-time news and information, virtual and in-person networking, as well as assisting with employment issues and providing a contract review service when you begin your career. A position on the Board of Directors is also reserved for a Resident Director. For more information about IMS leadership opportunities, contact us for more information.
