Women in Medicine Conference

Join the Iowa Medical Society September 17, 2022 for an engaging event that will celebrate and empower women physicians in Iowa by recognizing the unique experiences of women in medicine. This conference will offer the expertise, guidance, and collegiality to be the best and most fulfilled practitioners they can be!

Speakers & Agenda:

Kerri Lockhart, MD, FAAP, is a board-certified pediatrician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is Vice President of the Cook County Physicians Association, holds a Leading Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion certification through Northwestern University, and is a member of the National Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the Illinois Chapter of the AAP. Dr. Lockhart will be presenting on the topic of: "Fostering Well-Being Through Connection and Inclusion".

Denise Martinez, MD, is a Family Medicine Physician and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City. She also holds the positions of Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Interim Associate Vice President for Health Parity. Dr. Martinez specializes in women's health, obstetrics, chronic disease management, and family medicine. Dr. Martinez will be sharing information about Imposter Syndrome & Belonging Deprivation.

Susan Sgambati, MD, is the Medical Director of Patient Safety and Risk Management for COPIC Companies in Denver, Colorado.  Prior to her role at COPIC, she served as Chair of the Department of Surgery at Rose Medical Center and has more than 20 years of experience as a practicing surgeon. Dr. Sgambati will speak to facing a bad outcome with communication and CANDOR, focusing on the patient relationship and how to engage in such sensitive conversations.

Rebecca Lundquist, MD, DFAPA is the Program Director of the Broadlawns-UnityPoint Psychiatry Residency Program in Des Moines, Iowa. She has held several leadership positions including Medical Director of the Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic at UMassMemorial Medical Center, Founding Director of the Women’s Mental Health Clinic at UMassMemorial and Associate Program Director for Psychotherapy Training in the Psychiatry Residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Lundquist will be speaking on being a leader in Psychiatry and other stories.
