- IMS Objects to Proposed Rules of the Pharmacy Board To Establish an Electronic Drug Database Program (EDDP)
IMS has worked with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners and other interested parties over the past year on establishing an prescription drug monitoring program, now called an electronic drug database program (EDDP). After several negotiation sessions where IMS insisted upon and received certain basic protections for physicians and patients, legislation was introduced into the 2005 General Assembly. That legislation, House File 722, passed the House but failed to come up for vote in the Senate. The Board elected to proceed by rule. IMS objected to the rulemaking absent clear statutory authority with immunity and other protections in place. The Board now must decide if it will proceed with its rulemaking.
