Dr. Michael Kitchell to serve as new IMS President

Dr. Michael Kitchell, Ames, has been elected President of the Iowa Medical Society, and Timothy Kresowik, MD, Iowa City, was elected President-elect at the IMS Annual Meeting in Coralville. In addition, the House of Delegates elected several new board members and considered nine resolutions (PDF 27KB).
The 2009 House of Delegates (HOD) elected Robert Lee, MD, Johnston and Bryan Pechous, MD, Dubuque to the IMS Board of Directors. Both Dr. Lee and Dr. Pechous will serve as At-large Directors. In addition, Victoria Sharp, MD, Iowa City, was elected to serve as District 3 Director and Donald Skinner, MD, Carroll, was re-elected to serve as a District 2 Director. The Board also elected Lawrence Hutchison, MD, Dubuque, to serve on the Executive Committee as Board Chair and Robert Lee, MD, Johnston, was elected to serve on the Executive Committee as Secretary/Treasurer.
The House also elected Peter Reiter, MD, Ottumwa as Speaker of the House and Robert Anderson, MD, Bettendorf as Vice Speaker. Harold Miller, MD, Davenport was re-elected as a Delegate to the AMA, and Mariannette Miller-Meeks, MD, Ottumwa and Stephen Richards, DO, Algona, were re-elected as AMA Alternate Delegates. Thaddeus Anderson, MD, Dubuque and Beth Bruening, MD, Sioux City were elected to serve two-year terms on the IMS Nominating Committee.
The House of Delegates considered one report and eight resolutions that were brought before the Legislative reference committee. A separate resolution to add a student director and a resident director to the board was approved at the House of Delegates on Saturday morning. On Sunday, the House elected Susan Hagen, MD, Iowa City, to serve as resident director and George Wandling, Jr., UI MSS, to serve as the medical student director.
