Mike Gronstal

Senator Mike Gronstal was recently re-elected to serve his seventh term in the 8th Senate District, which includes his hometown of Council Bluffs. Senator Gronstal serves as the Democratic Majority Leader in the Iowa Senate, a position he has held since 1997. Senator Gronstal is a graduate of Antioch College in Ohio and began his career as a social worker.

His father served on the Council Bluffs City Council and was later elected Mayor of Council Bluffs. Inspired by his family's commitment to public service, he first sought elected office to promote the values of middle class families and fiscal responsibility. Senator Gronstal and his wife Connie have two daughters, Kate and Sarah.
