I've never seen an empirical study on the matter, but as a population, physicians seem to excel at things besides medicine. Examples abound, but a few of my favorites:

Hunter Fuerste, MD, is an accomplished musician and band leader.

Rom Fuerste, MD, Hunter's brother, once got a hole-in-one...on a par four!

Steve Jacobs, MD dives in the presence of great white sharks.

Lor Hutchison, MD is a monster-biker, having biked in Europe and all over the US. And as you can see from the picture, he also likes to shoot things.

Julia Goodin, MD is an outstanding ballroom dancer.

Don Nelson, MD is an amateur magician.

Maybe the rigors of medical training attract a personality type that likes to excel at whatever interests them, but I hypothesize that physicians are more likely to excel at avocations such as music and other things than the general population.

Perhaps in IMS talent show would be a nice fundraiser for our foundation some day!
