HIT Initiative
"To advance an innovative healthcare environment in Iowa that employs the electronic health record as a tool for improving quality, safety and value."
The Iowa Medical Society, in partnership with the Iowa Foundation for Medical Care (IFMC), has begun a new project entitled Health Information Technology (HIT) Initiative.
The main goals are to engage providers regarding the need to implement an electronic environment within the clinic setting, educate providers about the clinical value of an electronic environment, discuss success stories from those clinics that have undergone a conversion to electronic health records (EHR), and support those that are beginning to evaluate the transition. The initiative also plans to make resources available to aid in evaluating EHR software, writing requests for proposals from vendors, information on national standards and definitions, and processes for successful conversion to EHR, etc.
Periodically, various "stakeholder" meetings will be held. These meetings are open to any physician practices that: 1) have not started to think about converting to electronic health records; 2) those that have completed the process; and 3) any clinic between these two extremes.
